The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal uniquely blends the traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism. Around the 13th century, monks, merchants, and artists fled the Islamic invasions of north India. They established themselves in the Kathmandu Valley and thus further strengthened the ties with the Indian subcontinent.
